Junk Space

The petrol station

You pass it every day. The strip of businesses along the motorway. The petrol station at two in the morning. The housing estate that could be anywhere and nowhere. The shopping centre without an identity. Places we all know, but rarely truly see.

Junk Space

In Junk Space, more than thirty artists turn their attention to contemporary public space: to the anonymous, interchangeable and sometimes dilapidated places that have come to shape our surroundings. Through painting, photography, street art, installation and video, they examine the places we take for granted. The spaces we inhabit, pass through and often leave again without a second thought.

A sense of alienation

What do these places tell us about the way we live? About how we live together? And why do so many of these spaces feel both familiar and strangely alienating?

Collaboration

For this exhibition, Museum MORE joins forces with STRAAT, the museum for street art and graffiti in Amsterdam. Together, they bring together artists who find beauty, alienation, humour and meaning in places that usually go unnoticed.
