Will we see you After Hours at the Rijksmuseum? On July 25, you're invited to an evening full of talks, activities, workshops, and more all centered around the theme of gender and sexual diversity. Discover the full program below!
Films & Panel discussion
In the auditorium, we’ll explore how gender has been represented in art and across cultures throughout the centuries. In collaboration with the Humans of Film Festival, we’ll screen two short films on sexual and gender diversity. Moderator Alejandra Ortiz (she/her), curators from the Rijksmuseum, writer Tahrim Ramdjan (he/him), and photographer and writer Bete van Meeuwen (they/them) will engage in a lively conversation around these themes.
The panel discussion is in Dutch.
Talk on Queerness in Japan
In Japan, both past and present, queerness can be both deeply embedded and socially taboo. Join senior educator Anne Knipping (she/her) for a look at artistic expressions from then and now, and how they reflect different views on queerness.
The talk is in Dutch.
Exhibitions
Visit the Asian Pavilion and explore the exhibitions Crossings and Fiona Tan: Monomania.
Workshops
How do we visualize masculinity or femininity? And what unconscious stereotypes or judgments come into play? With guidance from our drawing instructors, you’ll learn to look and draw differently, using works from our collection.
Activities
Our ideas about gender and identity have shifted over time. In the Asian Pavilion, we invite you to explore artworks that offer fresh perspectives, sparked by thought-provoking conversation starters.
In the Photo Gallery, a storyteller shares short tales from India in which gender transformation plays a central role.
